Jones’ 17, Marshall’s game-winner lead Samford over Furman, 74-72

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Jermaine Marshall scored 15 points and his layup through traffic with two seconds left carried Samford past Furman 74-72 on Wednesday night.

Marshall rebounded JP Pegues’ 3-point attempt for Furman with eight seconds left and sprinted the distance with the ball for the game winner. Furman’s desperation three-quarter court heave was nowhere close to the rim.

Rylan Jones led Samford 24-4, 13-2 Southern Conference) with 17 points.

Pegues led the Paladins (15-13, 9-6) with 33 points and six rebounds. Garrett Hien added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists for Furman.

Both teams play Saturday. Samford hosts East Tennessee State and Furman plays Wofford at home.
